Is it possible to switch an HDMI source (Xbox 360 S) to D-Sub? From what I can tell, HDMI --> D-Sub is impossible due to Analogue/digital, but in the jungle there's a "Cabling4Less DVI to VGA (HD15) Adaptor (M-F)"

Would this work to put on the end of an HDMI/DVI-D adapter, to plug into my iiyama E2710? I could just use the HDMI/DVI-D cable, but it would be nice if I could have both my xbox and pc plugged in at the same time

That adapter you mentioned just converts between DVI-I and VGA. DVI-I can carry both digital and analogue video signals and is the connection that most graphics cards use

This allows simple and cheap pin-swapping adapters (like the one you mentioned) to create a VGA output without including the connector on the card. This means that the video signal sent out of the DVI-I port (and into the VGA) is analogue and the adapter doesn't do any processing or digital to analogue conversion.

If you tried to use this with a DVI-D (digital) to HDMI adapter you just wouldn't get any signal.

There are ways of doing this, however it requires a box to process the digital video signal and output an analogue one and these usually cost ~£100.

However, for you uses a "xbox 360 vga hd av cable" would work fine and doesn't cost much. Or alternatively a HDMI switch box like this and a HDMI to DVI-D adapter to hook it up to your monitor (this is prefered option as the digital output of the 360 is being used).

Ah okay thanks for that. I'll see if swapping over the DVI-D inputs gets unbearably tedious, and consider the VGA cable if it does. There aren't any Xbox games (past the menu system) that actually play in 1080p, right? If I remember correctly practically everything is less than 720p upscaled?

I use the vga cable for my xbox and an my old monitor which had hdmi the vga quality was actually better!
