HDMI – DVI Sound Issue

Hi Guys

I have a Nvidia 9800 GTX running on Vista and i have just connected it to my Samsung LCD using a HDMI cable to DVI in the back of my card using a convertor and I have connected a standard 3.5 audio cable from my sound card to the audio port in my TV in order to transmit sound but when i turn my pc on i just hear a on and off static noise coming from the speakers in my TV. I think this is a graphics problem because if i take my audio cable out i still hear the static noise.

Need some help please.

Thanks,

It may be that the monitor is detecting the hdmi input and expecting sound through it, which aint gonna happen on a 9800 GTX as i'm sure you know. Is there any option on the monitor to select sound input?

I get no sound even with the cable in just the static noise. I have tried everything in my audio options but still no luck. I have tested both the audio and HDMI cable and they both work.

If you're unable to get anything with only the audio (and not the hdmi) connected, then perhaps there's a problem with the monitor sound. Have you tried connecting the audio, instead of to the tv, to a seperate speaker system?

EDIT: If it is still that the monitor wants sound through HDMI and wont let you select what input to use, you may be stuck with using a seperate sound system. There are adapters from DVI and sound to HDMI which you could consider, but i think they're somewhat pricey.

You could try posting on the monitor forum, they may be able to give more helpful advice as it seems to be monitor-side.
