Hi All i was looking at a new monitor's spec and noticed it said it had an HDMI connection , can somebody tell me what this is used for ?

its the standard connection for HD enabled electronics, like game consoles, dvd players, blue ray players etc. Just think of it as an alternative to VGA/DVI

so you can use your pc via the vga/dvi connection and a hd source into the hdmi connection.

thanks

okay i,m with that , so if i am just using the monitor with my p.c can i use this HDMI lead as well as DVI or with ?

Basically, your GFX card's connection ports affect what connection on your monitor you will use.

VGA - VGA cable
HDMI - HDMI cable
DVI - DVI cable

Or, if your GFX card has a connection that your monitor does not, i.e. GFX card is DVI but monitor only has HDMI port, you can use a DVI to HDMI adaptor.

thanks a lot i,m following all this now , so is DVI-D as good as HDMI or the same function ?

use whatever is available to you. There is no difference between HDMI and DVI. HDMI just carries an audio signal, aswell as video.

interesting info

Really the same but personally, I would always go for HDMI.

I'm running my 8800GT which only has 2 DVI ports via HDMI to my TV using an adaptor.

Thanks , this sounds very interesting , so what kind of an adaptor is required ? if needed of course .
