Hi all.

I have a GTX 275 and its a dvi connection. My tv in the front room dosnt have a vga connection which I have the adapter for only HDMi. Now I was wondering if there is a cable available to convert my dvi output to HDMi. The next question, is there a way of getting sound down the said cable so that I dont have to lug my speakers down to the front room too? My tv dosnt have an optical port on the back either so that rules out just running an optical cable from the pc to the tv!

Cheers.

DVI = HDMI but without audio. Just get a DVI to HDMI cable. Just noticed OCUK actually do these although prob worth shopping around. You'll need to connect your audio to a sound system or something though.

You can get converters to mix in the audio but they aren't very cheap.

not quite true buddy:

I have a 5m dvi-hdmi cable that transmits audio to my 24" monitor

you have to connect the graphics card internally to the spdif headers on your motherboard/soundcard

Cheers for the info. So ive checked my card and it has the spdif connectors on the top, looks like 2 wires are needed. Where will I get one of these bays from? Also I game using sli, will I only need to connect the main card to the motherboard, cheers for your help.

Unfortunately i have no idea where you would get them as mine came with the card, as for the SLI setup id imagine you would only need to connect the card that you are using the HDMI connection on.

Some graphics cards let you pass audio through a DVI -> HDMI adapter. Presumably it uses some unused pins (like the ones used for Dual Link DVI maybe).

Found this little baby on OCUK. So now I know I can pass sound through my DVi to Hdmi cable I only need to find the spdif connections for my GFX card, cheers guys for the help. If anyone has any idea where I can get these cables from I would be most gratefull. Cheers

ouch, 25quid for 3m, there's deffo cheaper out there. I use a 6quid 5m dvi-hdmi cable, works a treat shop around bud it's the consumer's choice.

i have my GPU (ati radeon 3870x2) ((no HDMI output)) on a dvi to hdmi connection, and running along a HDMI cable into my 1080p TV, and the sound comes through it, all i had to do was adjust sound devices in control panel.

thats the connector you need, and then just a HDMI cable

and there is a cheap HDMI cable.

OCUK truly does stock pretty much everything a PC builder could need!

EDIT========
I game in crossfire and only use 1 hdmi cable, if i change the sound output to my GPU it plays sound as normal thru my tv.

I'm doing the same thing as well.
I have an ATI4870 which came with a dvi to hdmi adapter.
Plug my hdmi lead in to the adapter the other end in to the plasma , go to the control panel , click on sound and send the audio down the hdmi cable.
Start the video , sound and picture perfect.
Got my 10m Hdmi lead from a auction house fo £7.20.

Cheers fellas, ive ordered one of those adapter things and ive already got a spare hdmi cable from my 360 so as soon as it turns up I will be giving it a try. So you say all I need to do is go into control panel and just re route the sound yea??

as I said before you need the internal spdif cable to connect the audio card/onboard to the graphics card, it's just 2 wires with connector's at either end. any wires will do.

there's a guide here:

http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/441176-guide-8800gt-9800gt-9800gtx-sound-over.html

this has to be done this way because nvidia cards don't carry audio, where as ATI cards do, some of the ATI boys on here have said you just enable it in sound control panel which is ok for them but us nvidia boys have to physically connect the sound card and gpu together.

I've done this and now transmit audio/video via 5m HDMI cable to dining room 24" monitor, and 10m cable to the front room 40" TV.
