HDMI hz on LG 34UC79G

Tried out the LG last night, albeit plugged into laptop via hdmi. Can only get 100hz at 2560x1080 ? (PC In bits at the moment)

Laptop has a 1070 gpu and LG state hdmi is v2.0. Should I be able to get 144hz with hdmi cable ? Or is 100hz my limit ??

That's correct. 100hz on hdmi. 144hz on display port.
