Wondering if any one can help me as i've spent a huge chunk of the afternoon trying to get this to work.

I have a XPS M1530 With hdmi when i connect it directly to my plasma i get picture and sound. But to get DTS or 5.1 i need to send it to the my home cinema amp ( sony STR K880).

So i've connected the laptop Via HDMI to the Amp then another lead in the out socket from the amp to the plasma.I get a picture but i get no sound at all and i really can't see why not?

I'm using VLC to stream the HI-Def content.

I've tried everything on the amp but can't see why this isn't working i really need some help as i'm pulling my hair out here!

Thanks.

I have the same problem. Connect my 1530 via HDMI to my Sony HDTV and only get sound via my speakers on the laptop. Have fiddled with every setting on there but with no joy. Sort of defeats the point of HDMI doesn't it?

is the laptop actually able to send out audio via HDMI? last time i checked (it was quite a while ago) most g-cards that had hdmi on them were not capable of outputting video and audio via HDMI

it is definatly worthing double checking though :)

I was pretty sure the card could do that ?

Like the poster above said connecting it to the plasma direct it works fine goes to the amp and no sound i just can't work it out

I find I can't get any sound out of my TV - so what am I doing wrong then?

lol that'll teach me for skimp reading a post. missed that bit :)

Ok, well if sound works fine from the TV when connected directly, but not when the amp is passing the video through to the TV.

EDIT, ive jsut done a bit of googling and it seems the sony STRK880 can only pass a HDMI signal through to a video source. It isn't capable of stripping the audio out of the HDMI signal and passing it onto your speakers. Over on AV forums theres a few PS3 owners with the same problem of no sound or the amp passing the sound on to the TV (this is with the STR K880). the only way they could get surround sound was to connect up an optical cable

i had the same problem at first when i linked it directly to the plasma.

You need to right click the audio button on the tool bar and tick something in there .

Enable the "Advanced Controls" and click on "PC SP K Mute"

By doing this it will cut the sound out on the laptop and play through the tv.

Though this isn't working when i send it to my amp :(

Your joking!

No wonder i can't get it to work then couldn't see anything i'd done wrong myself.

Well thats a downer as i don't have any optical outs on the XPS 1530.

I find it amazing it can't strip the sound but it can the picture i mean thats crazy when they add HDMI on the amp.

Thanks a lot for checking up for me at least thats solved one problem .
