hdmi not working on gtx280

i got my bfg gtx 280 oc today & it came with a hdmi converter and cable, i plugged the cable into my hdtv but for some reason its not detecting it :confused: any ideas what to do? i have the latest drivers installed
 
well i got it to detect the tv and it works but for some reason it wont let me have anythign higher than 1024 by 768, i tried to set a custom resolution of 1080p but it wouldnt pass the test
 
any ideas what could be the problem? :confused:

sorry for the bump but the topic had sunk to page 5 and im completely stumped :p
 
well its a bravia kdl40w4000 and it worked fine with my 4870x2 in the same hdmi port, do you think a faulty hdmi cable could cause this?
 
If your TV has a VGA input, try it with a DVI to VGA lead to see if the card works 1st. Then try it with a DVD player HDMI to HDMI to eliminate the TV inputs are faulty.
 
well i know that its not the tv input because i have tested my ps3 in the same socket, i dont actually have a vga cable at hand but i know that both connection on the card are working because i have tried my monitor in both

i guess i should try the hdmi cable from my ps3 to see if that is the problem but its a bigger job than it sounds with all the cables that i have going into my tv
