hdmi or dvi?

I know they are both the same(both digital) but i was wondering does hdmi deliver the picture at faster rates, I'm on dvi now.

To my knowledge DVI-D is better than HDMI.

I always assumed HDMI and DVI-D were the same minus the audio with DVI.

The image quality from HDMI and DVI is identical.

HDMI can carry an audio signal, DVI can't.

There are no issues with image scaling with DVI whereas there can be with HDMI.

Roughly speaking:

HDMI is going to limit you to a maximum of 1920x1200 @ 60Hz.
Dual link DVI has the bandwidth for 2560x1600 @ 60Hz or 1920x1200/1920x1080 @ 120Hz.
All the 3D/120Hz monitors use dual link DVI or DisplayPort for 120Hz.

In normal use, DVI and HDMI are pretty much exactly the same. Unless you're using a huge resolution monitor, or use one with a specific feature, you don't need DVI-D.
