Can anyone recommend a good HDMI out -> Display Port in cable converter. I have a monitor with two display port inputs and 1 HDMI input. My personal laptop has display port output so that's one, and I have two work laptops which are both HDMI out. So I have one display port input left in the monitor which ideally I'd like to have used by one of my work laptops.

I bought a cable converter which claimed it supported 4k resolutions, but when it was plugged into my up to 8k display port cable that the monitor shipped with I can only get a max resolution of 1920*1080, which obviously looks horrible on a 1440p monitor.

So are there any solutions anyone would recommend?

For these sorts of things it's always better to steer away from adapters and use one dedicated cable. Just go on Amazon and search for hdmi displayport cable and there's any number for well under a tenner.

Maybe consider a HDMI switch instead?

What is the laptop model? Are you sure it's a recentish HDMI version that can do higher than 1080p? Do you get the 1440p option when it's connected to the HDMI port?

Yes using the HDMI out -> HDMI in give me the 1440p resolution. Hmmm yeah the switch route may be the way to go

I found plenty that were display port out hdmi in, not vice versa
Apologies you're quite right. My bad for not reading/thinking that through!

I had the same issue with my work laptop (Dell) but fortunately I was issued a dock which had a displayport on it which solved my problem at the time.
