I have a laptop with a GT630m 2Gb GPU

Im thinking of buying a 27" monitor but i've heard that if i plug it into this then the max res i will get is 1900x1200

Is this true, does anybody have an idea as im confused
I want it to go to 1080

Please help

thanks

I'm guessing you're thinking of buying a 2560x1440 monitor?

In that case your laptop and the monitor need to have a dual link DVI or displayport connection. Those are the only 2 connections currently on the market that can push that resolution. The GT630M is perfectly capable of powering that resolution but most laptops don't come with the required connections.

Oh missed the 1080 part it seems.
Don't worry 1920x1080 can be done over DVI, VGA, HDMI and Displayport so basically anything works. Do note you're already stating yourself the max res is 1920x1200 (which is true for single link DVI and HDMI), you can go lower without any problems.

HDMI 1.4 will happily push out 4096×2160p the same resolution as digital cinema projectors at 36bit deep colour.

Says so on wiki... and it's confirmed by a publication on www.hdmi.org...

It wont be at 120hz and 3D, but it's capable of pumping out more that 1080p

It doesn't really matter what the theoretical bandwidth of the cable/channel is when the port controllers are limited to something far less. Most will only push out 1920 x 1200 at 60Hz currently.
