hdmi output?

i think the main difference is HDMI can carry an audio signal aswell - afaik both are digital cables so picture quality should be the same, or there abouts.

However i could be talking complete crud.. it happens a lot :)

HDMI also carries other data to do with some sort of piracy prevention that's going to be brought in to use in the future... well this is what I THINK I've heard.

As McDaniel says - "I could be talking complete crud" :o

ta mate, is dvi a better connection than s/video? i always use s/video connected to my tv, just wondered if using the dvi output would produce better results.

Much much better results.

Zefan - i heard that was something to do with blue-ray drives having anti-piracy type software within the firmware which updates when a disc is put in, it checks the authenticity of it or something?

thanks for that, the tv i`m using at the moment is an old goodmans crt and dosent even have a dedicated s/video socket, i have to use an adaptor but i `ve just ordered a 37inch lcd tv which has s/vid , dvi, hdmi and other inputs.i can`t wait to try it with the dvi output! :)

Yes but apparently this integrates with the TV or something which is why you should only buy HDMI tv's now... or something.

As you can tell I really don't know, and the person that told me probably didn't either :p

HDMI (Hi-Definition Multimedia Interface) allows Full bit-rate digital audio to be transmitted concurrently with a full bit-rate digital video signal. It also carries the HDCP (High Definition Copyright Protection) signalling. Which will come into effect with the advent of HDDVD & Blu-ray players & also HD TV broadcasts to try & prevent piracy.

just cant see how a cable could do something like that..

Nor me, but I swear I've heard something. Why else are HDMI TV's the only way to go... I was asking someone about it and they went in to all this detail which I can't remember :o

AHA! I'm right :p
