Forgive me asking but this is a new concept to me but I'd like to use it. My current setup is as follows:

Router > Switch downstairs > Access point/Switch upstairs (Plusnet Hub One) > PC.

I'd like to see my PC on my TV in the living room so if I buy HDMI over ethernet adapters, will this work with my setup? Moving PC isn't an option unfortunately.

Edit: Realised that I would need USB too. Does a device exist that could do HDMI and USB over ethernet?

Various options.

Are you wanting a very low latency option for playing games or is it something more forgiving such as playing videos?

What resolution and refresh rate are you expecting to support?

IIRC there are 2 approaches to HDMI over Ethernet - I believe one sends the video over IP via existing LAN and the other uses its own run(s) of CAT5 to send video long distance.

There used to be USB over network switches but I don't know if such a product exists to do both.

It would be for games but only those such as Assassins Creed and PGA Tour - Nothing that requires high refresh rate. 1080p 60Hz is fine for these.

Thanks. I'd be looking to run over existing LAN and not run another cable.

The HDMI over ethernet seems easy enough but I can't find much about USB over ethernet on the same device over switches too. I may be able to get away with just HDMI and use bluetooth for the controller. It may just be in range from the PC.

LTT did exactly this a while back. Personally the price difference of a balun kit vs going over ethernet used to be significant, also historically you normally wanted to keep your HDMI network separate from your IP network, but everything is cheaper now. Active USB extenders extenders could work for example, I’ve seen people use live screen capture to remote play on consoles, that said also consider if using a device like a steam box or self built version or even a Shield depending on the game may suit your needs? Whatever you do, you will want to use a hard wired connection.

In the past I have used a "NEWLink 4 port USB to LAN adaptor" (not a recommendation as it is ancient now without modern USB standard support) - I can't find anything similar on sale from a quick search and things were a bit of a mess driver wise.

EDIT: There are a few USB over Ethernet extender devices at around £50 but they are a bit different.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of a steam link. I have a raspberry pi that I could use as it will all be hard wired. Last time I used steam link, it was over WiFi so wasn't the best.

Thanks, I shall take a look.

All I can seem to find is extenders where you have to run a separate length of CAT5 between the two USB boxes - the device I used in the past was USB over IP.

EDIT: Looks like StarTech do a couple of devices and 1-2 other ones out there though availability is hit and miss and I'm not sure what the driver compatibility is like with game controllers, etc.
