HDMI over ethernet

Hi guys

Currently I have magic eye type device that sends video and infra red from my youview box. It connects to the youview box via scart and runs over coaxial cable to the TV upstairs. The picture quality isn't all that great if I'm honest hence wanting to upgrade.

I have ordered a hdmi extender which includes sender, receiver, infra red dongles and power supplies. I have then ordered separately a hdmi splitter to split the signal from the youview box to my main TV downstairs and then to the TV upstairs with the hdmi over ethernet. This one uses just the one ethernet cable so I just need order some cat 6 external cable as it will be going outside.

Is anyone else running these and if so what are your results?

Cheers

the HDMI over Ethernet or the Extender ?

Sorry I should have been more clear. I meant used HDMI extenders.

Thanks lucid. I'm not sure if mine use compression and I guess I am not allowed to link here but they run over only one cable as apposed to 2 some of the extenders use. They say "HDMI lossless Transmission" so hopefully should be half decent.

Well they turned up today and have given them a test run. The picture quality from my youview box over 10m of cat 5e cable I had lying around is very good. I cannot tell the difference to it being plugged in direct via HDMI. I have noticed that it doesn't seem to pass through dolby digital sound which isn't a huge problem as I'll only be using TV speakers upstairs. The one problem I do have is the receivers ethernet port is loose so the slightest movement and the signal is dropped. I have ordered a new set for tomorrow and will return the receiver.

Overall apart from the faulty port I am happy with them and it's so much better than the magic eye type ones.

Just because the cable has to go out of the house on the wall and back in. I didn't really want to be drilling larger holes in the ceiling for the hdmi cable to go through. Also I wanted ir and that would require another cable or wireless.

Well my second set came and they was faulty also. The power connector on the second one would go off if moved ever so slightly. I am sending both back now and have bought some HDBaseT ones that are better quality. I have fitted the cat 6 cable and these actually work as intended plus carry digital audio if I ever need it.

Lesson learnt. Buy cheap buy twice.
