HDMI possible eventually on a premium?

Will this be an eventual possibility. I really want HDMI but don't fancy having to get a new 360. I can't find onfo stating one way or the other whether the current 360's can potentially be upgraded to HDMI. Wasn't it MS's plan to be able to buy a core and eventually add lots of modules to make it equal the highest spec machines or have they gone back on this now with HDMI?

That's a bugger as the only thing I want is HDMI as that's the only way I can get 1080p

They've already said that the elite is the third sku so that leads me to believe they won't be upgrading the premium.

I meant an add on like the hard drive, wireless and VGA cables are add ons, not integrated into the console.

Aah but then that would defeat the point of the elite so they basically want you to upgrade.

I'd sure they wouldn't mind if it cost some silly amount of money. I'm just looking for a definite no it's not possible answer if that's the correct answer.

I believe the only reason it hasn't happened yet is because HDMI is a registered standard and Microsoft haven't had the right to adapt a custom end to connect to the AV port of the console and because there is no HDMI port on the rear of the 360 there is nothing they can do.
Sure I read that somewhere last year.

Could they not just release a block adapter which takes a standard HDMI lead rather than a moulded cable like the VGA cable?

A while ago MS said that the 360 was capable of digital video output and if the demand was there then they would look into it.

No I don't know if the Elite is the answer to this statement. I too am hoping for a HDMI or DVI output for the longterm future, short term I'm not bothered.

Same here mate, short term I don't mind but I'd love a cheapish module to allow me to use HDMI for 1080p and to remove the inteference that the VGA cable has. I do not want to be suckered into an elite.

You can get 1080 from both VGA and component anyhow.

Personally i think the Elite is

It's a lot of money for near enough no improvements. 120GB is useless in Europe and HDMI should be possible on a vanilla 360.

Although I hope your 360 dying doesn't mean you're going to come into every 360 thread slating it. We don't need another Bossy Papa

Not at all, i am not slating it, just saying i feel it will be. As soon as the Elite was announced i thought that it was their HDMI answer tbh.

Only possible way would be a component to HDMI external box (would also have to convert the audio to HDMI as well), current 360 hardware cant support HDMI, thats why the scalar chip had to be changed.

And how do you know this? I've read a lot of the hear-say on the net about it but seen no facts.
