Hey Guys,

A mate bought a premium a couple days ago and low and behold its got HDMI on it! Also has all the new things like Benq drive and extra heatsink. Very quite compared to my near launch day console yet still not quiet enough. His manufacture date was 2007-07-10, funny if it was today! Also, there was many things that were different between our consoles;

*The Hard drive-Mine has silver around the sides of it while his are grey, the silver bit that says HDD was different also.
*The Grey plastic-Mine is a shiny grey while my mates new one was a kinda dull matte colour. Just bought a new controller and that was also a different colour.
*Component Cable-Thinner and less pins than my one.

Took it over mine and plugged it into my TV (as he has no HDTV) and put the HDMI to the test!

And i have to say it was a lot worse than the analogue connection, not to my surprise. It was hard to explain but you can just see the digitized picture, it wasnt nice and smooth as the component connection was. Its like going from Analogue tv and digital tv. I would still use Component if i had a HDMI one.

Was nice to see another 360 as i have only played on mine, none of my mates have got one except me. Seems like they have all got one on order since they snapped the £199.99 deal. Was nice and quiet!

Has anyone else on here got a HDMI premium?

Still doesn't mean you're guaranteed not to get a non HDMI premium from the old stock.

Best to check for the time being.

Microsoft changed from metallic silver on the premium HDD, console sides, and joypad trim; to the boring grey of the Core version at least a year ago. Maybe more.

There's a better deal out there anyway.

I wouldnt know.

I dont like the grey, seems cheap. The hard drive looks really cheap compared to mine.

It depends what his TV and his native resolution is, probably explains why component is better on that particular tv.

Hey Inward,

We took his console over to mine and played it on my HDTV through HDMI. Just didnt seem as good a picture as component, you could see it was digital, hard to explain without close up pictures. (Samsung 32" R74)

Was sharpness turned up on the HDMI input compared to the Component input?

These changes are very old now.

Did you configure HDMI at all or just whack it on?

I guess every Tv is different, component input on my Sony D403000 is absolutely dire, so i use VGA for my 360.

Its good to know though, i had considered switching my 360 for an hdmi version, it looks like its not worth it really.

It was near enough the same sharpness number on HDMI as with component, around the 70 mark, out of 100. The sharpness was fine though, its just the kind of digital "artifacts" (cant think of a better word) you see when your about 30cm away from the TV.

The HDMI was configured to what my PS3 uses and just plugged the 360 in. There was also a reference levels option like on VGA in the display settings for HDMI.

To inward, its really not worth it unless you want the ease of one cable, or using an amp with HDMI, the picture to me was better on an analogue connection.

Thats what I did when I bought mine last week, I asked for a premium with hdmi and the chap at the shop checked his stock and brought one out. So it is best to check with the shop first

Why do you have sharpness on 70!!!

It should be 50 tops, preferably around the 40-45 mark.

Its what i find to be best. I think its at 65 to be exact. I did say around 70 :p.

Looks best to me and where im sitting so i left it like that, i did configure the sharpness for ages.
