Running under Windows 7
My HTPC (Asus P8H77-M Pro) with Realtek ALC 892 8Channel HD Audio is connected by HDMI to my AV Amp (Yamaha Z7)which in turn connects to my Samsung TV.
On checking my sound properties in windows it reports that the "Digital Audio HDMI" connection is unplugged??? And the Samsung is marked as plugged in. Both show as 2 channels.
I am not sure what I should expect but I would expect it reporting 8 channels (7.1) or should I be coming out of another port to get the most from the built in sound or perhaps buy a separate sound card.
Can anyone help/advise??l Audio HDMI" connection is unplugged??? And the Samsung is marked as plugged in. Both show 8 channels. Can anyone help??

Thanks for response, sorry for delay. I tried turning the TV on and off and weirdly it changes the identifying audio source from Samsung to DSP Z-7 (so some progress) however as with the SAMSUNG before it has only two channels (Stereo) active.
It also shows (under the audio properties for the Z7)only the following formats that are encoded DTS Audio, Dolby Digital Pro-logic & Dolby Digital.
Perhaps I need something set on the Amp. Can you confirm how I should set up passthrough?
Any help appreciated.

Update, This is really weird. I cant get the Z7 to remain as the audio source, it keeps going to SAMSUNG, which I guess is how windows is interpreting the Z7.
Although I was only getting it to recognise 2 Channels I played a film that was multi channel rather than the majority which I have are PCM and was able to see that the audio properties were now 8 Channels. No idea whats goiung on though....
