hi guys, basically setup a media centre:

Antec Fusion Case
Asus P5E-VM HDMI Intel G35 Micro-ATX (Socket 775) Motherboard
Windows Vista x64 Ultimate

Plugged in a hdmi cable to my tv and i am not getting any sound, when i use vga i am getting sound, i wondered if i needed another lead for hd audio. Looked at various audio settings on my pc but bh i haven't had time to have a good mess around with it. Any ideas what i might be doing wrong?

i don't think your mobo supports sound over hdmi mate ,you will need a separate cable

generally its a 3.5mm jack to 2x Phono Cable
to go between your sound output(speaker/headphone socket) and the left/right inputs on your tv ,these should be obvious but check on your tv before buying

tried the cable you suggested and adjusted settings accordingly but still no joy. seems that i can get hd recording with the new cabel but cant set it up to do hd playback, any ideas. Thanks

The G35 is just about the only chipset that DOES provide full sound over HDMI but you need to play about to get it working. Search for G35 over at avsforum.

I managed to get the SPDIF to say working in the sounds section on the control panel, but i am not hearing any sound, i have tried all the jack sockets and still nothing. am i using the wrong jack maybe?

Thanks

Thanks for the help so far guys, tried on avforums, and it seems like the hannspree 37" isnt capable of playing sound over hdmi directly from my pc with the motherboard i got. tried a samsung and it worked straight away.
