uHas anyone succesffully used a hdmi with splitter with an m1 mac?

I got an amazon basics splitter which works fine with my work windows laptop. I have a usb c adapter plugged into the mac and when i plug the hdmi into it nothing happens annoyingly.

What are you trying to achieve with the splitter? Multiple external monitors?

I have an external monitor for my work laptop, I want to use the splitter so when i'm not using the work laptop i can plug my mac into the screen.

Or if i had another hdmi cable i could have them both plugged in and switch from mac/work laptop when need be.

If I'm reading this right, you want to use one display between two devices, a work laptop and the Mac?

What splitter did you get exactly? Ideally you want a HDMI switcher/hub, the splitter you may have could work the other way round, as in 1 input, 2 output.

EDIT: Just remembered the M1 Macs needs an active adapter since the USB-C port doesn't natively support HDMI signalling, easiest option is a USB-C hub with HDMI out.

thats right, its an amazon basics one. Shall i just get a display port to hdmi cable ? That way the DP slot is used for the mac and the hdmi for the windows laptop.

I do have a ubc c hub already for the mac.

That won't work either since it still relies on the USB-C port to support HDMI mode, which the M1 lacks.

Does the monitor itself not have Displayport?

EDIT: Wait I may have misunderstood, you mean using the M1's native DP port to HDMI? Not 100% sure if it will work but could give it a go.

No you didn’t misunderstand but your kdea about the dp may work, will give it a go.

I habe used the usb c hub to hook the m1 up to this screen via hdmi though before.
