HDMI Supported Resolutions Confusion

I need to run a 15 meter cable between PC (MSI GTX 680 oc) in the living room & a 27" 1440 IPS (Dell/Hasro) screen in the music room.

Initially I planned to run a HDMI cable as opposed to a DVI as HDMI is a cheaper option at these lengths & it also carries a digital audio signal.

From what I've read online the supported resolutions of HDMI is determined by the manufacturer of the devices & not the HDMI standard itself.

Can anyone help me determine whether or not my GPU & Screen will work with HDMI & 1440 resolution or will I be capped at 1080 & have to go the DVI route?

Thanks in advance for your time as always.

HDMI 1440 should be fine to any 60Hz display. It's 120Hz monitors that can struggle with HDMI bandwidth above 1080p.

Edit: At least from a pure bandwidth perspective, individual monitor limitations notwithstanding.

Thanks again guys guess it's time to try and source a 15 meter DVI cable neither overclockers or the other place have them......

Too much conflicting opinion on the HDMI issue so have ordered the Dell U2713HM from overclockers & a DVI cable from elsewhere. Both items being delivered tomorrow I will test the HDMI thing myself to see if it either supports those higher resolutions out of the box or can be forced by by pointing xorg.conf to a custom EDID file as suggested on another forum.

When I looked into this over a year ago I found out that resolutions over 1920x1200 were only supported via a HDMI connector not found on any consumer electronics. Videocards with the exception of the AMD Radeon 7xxx series also didn't support resolutions over 1920x1200 via HDMI (NVIDIA's latest generation wasn't out back then).

Also distances as big as 15m are problematic, anything over 5m is problematic tbh - so 3 times that is very likely to give you signal strength issues. Make sure to get a very well shielded cable but I'm fairly sure that you wil need an active solution that amplifies the signal which most likely is ridiculously expensive.

Thanks guys everything delivered a short while ago & working beautifully with 15m DVI cable.

Now to find a nice cavity wall mounting solution, anyone has experience mounting a screen of this nature (Dell 2713HM) on a plaster board wall?
