HDMI switches

Sorry i wasnt sure what section to put this in,please move if needed

anyways.......

If a HDMI switch like this one

supports upto v1.3 cables,does that mean 1.4 cables wont work on it ?

1.4 cables are physically the same as 1.3 cables.

Whether 1.4 content (like 3D) will work with that switch - i'm not sure.

3D was introduced with HDMI 1.4 so I wouldn't count on that working....

But apart from that the switch and cables will work fine you just might not get any features above what HDMI 1.3 supports.

1.4 also supports networking I believe.

I just been enquring on the bay about a HDMI splitter rather than a switch,you know the kind of thing , it has 1 input and two outputs,very cheap at £3:50 BUT one thing i dont get is the seller says you cant have two displays on it at the same time

so if i plugged one of these cheapo splitters into my xbox then ran two hdmi cables from the splitter one to my plasma tv and one to my pc monitor he reckons i have to physically turn off one of the screens off by the power button as the splitter wont transmit over two screens,only one at a time

lol surely thats not correct ?

If its HDCP I think it specifically excludes that.

I really wouldn't waste your time and money on a splitter - they usually don't work, and if they do work they don't work well.

Instead - go for a switch box, they are not expensive and will work properly.
