HDMI to DVI

Are there any pro's or cons to using the HDMI output from a 5770 to connect to the DVI port on my BENQ G2220HD for 1920*1080 res? The monitor has DVI and VGA inputs but no actual HDMI input socket.

The story is that I have a Dual link DVI-D <> HDMI cable spare but I don't currently have a DVI to DVI cable and I wanted to get some thoughts on whether it would be best just to get one or if the HDMI cable will be fine?

I haven't tried the HDMI cable yet as the 5770 is about to go in. For background I've been using DVI to VGA through an adaptor as the monitor just come with a VGA cable so I don't have any reference of how VGA vs DVI will even look. Any thoughts or should I go out and get a proper cable for the job?

DVI and HDMI are electrically compatible (the main differences are the shape and that HDMI carries sound), so the picture quality using the connections you propose should look identical to connecting DVI-DVI.

Using this setup should look a bit sharper than VGA, but the difference is pretty subtle.
