I know you can't go VGA to DVI as it doesnt convert the signal to digital but with HDMI and DVI both being digital is it possible to use a lead or adapter to do this?

Thanks

Edit - its a DVI-D connection on the monitor I believe so will need HDMI to DVI-D if possible?

Yes, it is possible. And there are plenty of such adapters on the market. Just make sure the female/male plugs are the right way around, or buy a ready-made HDMI-DVI cable, no adapters needed. (cost difference isn't that much, either, I think)

edit:
Actually, even DVI -> VGA is possible, if the DVI is DVI-I or DVI-A compatible. But if we're talking about LCD monitor, then digital signal solution is better.

Thanks, the monitor is DVI-D and the laptop is HDMI out. I currently have one monitor already connected (VGA to VGA) and want a second monitor via the HDMI output. It works if the lid is closed so will go with the HDMI to DVI-D lead.
