I recently managed to break my TV
And was wondering if you can convert HDMI from a PS3 to VGA so I can use my monitor which is quite old
just until I can afford a new TV.

You can, but it's not a simple matter of rearranging the pins. You will need some sort of a converter box, which according to my Googling skills costs around 50 quid and looks fairly ugly.

Or buy a PS3 VGA cable for £20 (connects into the AV out socket).

Unfortunately I can't link to any, as OCUK don't seem to stock them - but they aren't hard to find.

May I ask what specific make and model monitor you have?

The monitor is a yuraku probably from Hong Kong or something
Was brought from a mate who had had it for like 6 years
Dont think this thing even has a model number....

Any idea what the native resolution and aspect ratio are?

It is sort of a moot point if it is your only display device, but with this info we can tell you how you can expect it too look like running a PS3.

I think that it has a aspect ratio of 16:10 and a native resolution of 1440x900
Im not quite sure though:(

Thats cool - a pretty nice resolution there - so the PS3 games should look pretty good (most games are only rendered at 720p or below and then upscaled to display resolution anyway). As for the 16:10 aspect ration - you should expect to see black bars at the top and bottom of the screen - so the PS3 can preserve the 16:9 aspect ratio for its use.

All right thank you for your help
I will probably just wait an extra 2 weeks and buy a new monitor with HDMI ports :)
Don't know if I can last without my PS3 :(
