HDMI to VGA via RJ45

Hi. I have a spare pc monitor that I was hoping to set up in the kitchen as a tv. What I want to do is this; from my HDMI amp there is a single HDMI cable running to the tv and I select what channel I want to watch via the amp. I want to split the HDMI so that one still goes to the TV and the other goes via ethernet and then through a HDMI to vga adapter into the monitor and be able to get a picture on both simultaneously. The monitor has built in speakers and I have seen converters that have both vga and audio. Will this work and if so what issues will I run into as far as resolution is concerned. All outputs from the amp are either 1080i or 1080p.

Thanks

Depending on the monitor then the two biggest issues might be the supported resolutions and refresh rates.

Interlaced (1080i) isn't a mainstream PC signal format. Don't be surprised if your monitor doesn't know what to do with that. The second issue is refresh rates. PC monitors generally expect a 60Hz or 72Hz refresh rate signal. UK TV is 50Hz. Will your monitor accept that?

The splitter, HDMI over CAT cable, back to HDMI bit will work fine so long as you buy decent baluns. I just wonder though if it wouldn't be cheaper to buy a small 1080p TV with HDMI in rather than then trying to get the analogue issues resolved.

Thanks for reply. Sadly the 1080i is the output from the SkyHD box and will be the main viewing for the second screen. Maybe your right about buying a cheap TV which is a shame as the monitor is just gathering dust!
