HDMI to VGA cable, is this possible, surely it must be if you can have HDMI to DVI then why not to VGA,

The problem is I paid £600 pounds for my 27" lcd tv that has every socket on it appart from HDMI, it handles HD signal througth the vga and component like a dream, the native res for the panel is 1280x720,

What if I get a HDMI to DVI cable and then plug that into a DVI to VGA adapter, any chance of success ?

Failling that I found this box for £150, any opinions.

Do you have anything which is HDMI that you need to plug into it? I'd wait until you need it before buying.

No of course not, the reason being is that I don't have a HDMI socket on my tv, thats why I made this thread :( .

Anyhow, HDMI dvd players have already started appearing on the high street and we all know sky is going to offer a HD service any minite now.

Sky have gone on the record as saying the new box will have component, HDMI as well as scart(to encourage adopters who don't have hdtv's)

Cheers for that bit of info, guess I don't need to worry too much then, glad they opted to put component on their boxes, would have been stupid to just put HDMI on them.

A HDMI to DVI cable is HDMI>DVI-D (digital > digital)

A DVI to VGA adaptor is DVI-I>VGA (digital+analogue > just the analogue component)

Therefore you can't get a HDMI>VGA cable because it would require the conversion of digital to analogue. HOWEVER it can be done... but it requires a reasonably expensive box.

Do you mind me asking which tv you have?

cheers, mines nothing special, Logik LCX27WN2, problem was I brought it too early and did'nt do enough research, I checked the spec, I was wrong about the native res being 1280x720, apparently it's 1366X768 which is an odd resolution. tbh the only reason the panel caught my eye was b-cos it was black, I try and stay away from silver electronics if I can.

As you seem to know what you talking about, those hdmi to vga boxes like the one in my OP, do you know if they work well as it's something that I still may need ?.
