I have a 24inch monitor that runs a native 1920x1080, which is the resolution for HD and DVI. But, my problem is that I don't know if it's better to run games and movies on the VGA 1920x1080, or use HDMI/DVI (same resolution as the VGA) for optimal picture quality. If anyone has any experience with this sort of thing, that would be great.

Technically DVI and HDMI should be crisper as they are digital, but to be honest - the image quality difference betten DVI/HDMI is very subtle, so isn't something to worry about.

However, If you have both cables and the graphics card can do both, I would suggest going DVI or HDMI. Its simple to set up and gives you the best picture quality.

If Movies are coming from a HDCP enabled device such as a Bluray drive then VGA (Pfft Security) wont work, But games will.

Ive heard that you only actually see a difference in quality When your Actually running a serious amount of the stuff, like 50m or so.

You are right that HDCP does not work with VGA, however you can play Blu-Rays over VGA (using an internal PC drive) as the software makers have allowed VGA to bypass HDCP ( I have tested this with a HTPC I built for my parents). However, this bypass is not guarantee to be a permanent one and these companies could close it if they wanted to (in later versions).

the quality difference can by quite big, depends on the sockets used (both monitor and graphics cards)

i've seen some monitors in the past that have a poor vga socket, so theres a massive difference between the 2.

but on others, its not noticable at all.

so technically, they can be simlar in quality but it depends how they are implemented

The only time you should use vga is if you don't have a digital option like hdmi or dvi.

I was under the impression that non hdcp hardware would simply downscale the image slightly. It wont stop the playback. Is that not right?
