Hi guys,

Happy new year to everyone...

I have an ATI 3450 card in my system. I have connected it to my screen with a hdmi lead.
Thing is though i can only get a stable resolution of 1776 x 1000. The screen positioning is perfect. But if i goto the max resolution of 1920 x 1080 the screen goes off centred
Is this normal...

Is there any advantage of hdmi over dvi...Picture quality perhaps?

Help!!!

Check if your screen has a just/overscan option. Some 1080p screens do, and for whatever reason overcompensate. HDMI and DVI are exactly the same PQ wise, HDMI can additionally carry sound is all.

The advantage of HDMI is that at least with the ATI cards of recent, they also carry audio. The 4 series carry upto 7.1 PCM, which makes them perfect media/surround cards for people with home cinema systems.

Can someone please recommend me the best video card for watching movies/hd playback and web browsing...Really want great picture quality.
I don't play games...

I'd appreciate any help! Advice

There is no limit on budget by the way...

If thats the case, something like a 4350 (think theres some passive ones). Cheap, should have decent picture output, UVD2 etc. Looking at your OP you may just want to stay with your current card, you won't gain much :)

your 3450 is fine for watching movies/hd playback and web browsing...

is your screen a tv or monitor? if it's a tv, is it a full 1080p?
