HDMI

Hi guys, I have a 295 card and a 40" HD samsung lcd.

I am currently connecting using a DVI to VGA convertor and using the VGA socket on my TV/monitor.

Would it pay me to invest in a good quality HDMI cable and make use of the HDMI socket on my card or would the difference be negligable?

Think it depends on the length of cable you need. I would say, 1 or 2 meters get a cheap one. 5m and over, get a quality one.

Yeh, it's about 2 metres but do you think using the HDMI cable instead of the DVI to VGA cable I am currently using would be give a better quality picture in gaming etc. i.e. on crysis

I could just try it and see but HDMI cables can be expensive and I dont want to wast my money

Just get a cheap HDMI cable, at short lengths the quality of the cable makes bugger all difference.

I'll rephrase the question.

Will using a HDMI cable from my Nvidia 295 graphics card to my LCD TV be better than the current set up of DVI to VGA convertor to VGA input on my LCD TV?

I am playing world at war and crysis not playing bluray films or anything

Hi Guys, just thought it might be useful to someone in the future if I finished this thread off.

I've got my HDMI cable and connected my 40" samsung tele to my nvidia 295 graphics card using it.

Unfortunatly, the results werent good. So I've gone back to the DVI to vga cable

No harm done though, only £14.00 so no biggy.

Its native resolution is 1920 x 1080 and that is what it runs at when connected using my DVI to VGA cable. It looks fine as well. Lovely in fact

Using the HDMI cable though I get the following:

When I connect to HDMI 1 which is one of the general ports the picture looks grainy.

When I connect to HDMI 2 which is the one reccommended for DVI to HDMI set ups it looks exactly the same, grainy.

I have been through all the nvidia control panel settings and couldnt find or change anything that improved it.

I didn't take a screen shot so unfortunatly have nothing to show you guys.

Have one of you got this type of set up working then with a HDMI cable from a 295 card?

Very strange. In both setups, the same DVI output is being used - it's just the cable that is different. Logic dictates that either the cable is the problem or the TV doesn't like the digital signal?

I've looked at the manual for your TV and on page 46 it does show slightly different frequency settings between the DSub and HDMI input. If I remember correctly, you can set these values in the Nvidia control panel if you set up a custom resolution.

Just want to clear something up though, the current set up is using a Cable that has a DVI connection at one end and a VGA the other.

The HDMI cable is HDMI at both ends and plugs into a HDMI socket that the Nvidia 295 card has in addition to the two DVI sockets
