Can someone correct me if i'm wrong but...

If HDMI2.1 has VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) requirement...

And Nvidia only supports G-Sync...

So Nvidia cards can never be compliant with HDMI 2.1 unless they also start supporting Freesync?

Or am I wrong somewhere?

I don't think VRR is a required feature for 2.1 "certification".

It only occured to me yesterday when I saw VRR on the HDMI2.1 specification page:

https://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_1/index.aspx

VR is listed, and if it's not ther, theoretically it won't be HDMI 2.1 compliant.

Isn’t g-sync a variable refresh rate technology?

Thats the big question I guess. I guess from a technical standpoint G-Sync doesn't really have much to with HDMI/DP as those cables are just the carrier between GPU & the G-Sync module in the monitor? Again, a sort of question because i'm not really too sure on this stuff. First foray into the sync world. (Need a new GPU and figured I should probably get a sync monitor at the same time...)

It also makes me wonder whether a g-sync monitor will need to also support freesync if they want HDMI 2.1 branding.

Q: Can products have a combination of these features?
A: Yes, but it depends on each manufacturer’s implementation, so it is necessary to carefully check their specifications and marketing materials.

Pretty much tells us VRR is optional for HDMI 2.1 certification. It's unlikely to be a part of cheap Vestel type TVs for example, but they'll be marketed as HDMI 2.1 compliant.
