Setup
TV: Hisense H65M7000 (4k HDR10)
AV Receiver: Pioneer VSX-932 (4k HDR10)
Content player: Nvidia Shield (2017 edition), connected via Gigabit ethernet, running Plex client
Content provider: Windows server, connected via gigabit ethernet, running Plex server
Problem
When watching HDR content, there is a 50:50 chance that the content will start looking incredibly dark. If this happens, there is then a further 50:50 chance that it will flicker / flash after a few minutes, after which point there is a chance it will go back to looking dark, or it will look fine for the rest of the episode / movie. After putting up with this for months I finally set up a camera and managed to capture an occurrence: https://giphy.com/gifs/Mdoq4MZ2Jbs2gwSnCe
Here's a before and after comparison in case it doesn't come out well in the GIF: https://i.imgur.com/ZCdWOdJl.png
The difference looks minimal here because the scene is bright anyway (plus of course you're seeing a bunch of internet compressed edited screenshots of a video recorded on a phone!), but in darker scenes it can honestly be almost impossible to see some figures pre-flicker.
I've no idea what part of my hardware chain the issue is coming from, and I'm hoping one of you can help me narrow it down?
