HDR doesn't look good

I am really finding this strange, HDR supposed to make games look better with more vibrant colors, correct? But not matter what settings I try on my B6, I find the standard settings to look much better. HDR seems so boring and dull. Anyone feels the same?

I haven't played BF1 for a while, I believe it didn't support HDR at that time and it used to look much better.

HDR on my pro and Panasonic 65dx902b is staggeringly good, loads better than non hdr. At a guess I'd say your TV probably isn't set up correctly for hdr. I've never seen it disappoint.

What firmware are you on?

If you are on the 5.30.03, you need to turn on dynamic contrast to medium or high and wide colour gamut to wide, also check if the HDR game you are playing has a HDR calibration in its in-game settings menu.

Is this on the Xbox One S? The B6 is a Samsung set right?

I noticed some issues with HDR making the colours dull in Forza Horizon 3 with my Sammy 9000s, had to reboot the console to sort it out. You can tell because even the guide goes all dull and washed out.

Are you using a custom colour space in the TV config? Try setting it to auto.

B6 owner here, I've got an Xbox one S and a PS4 Pro, can't say I've noticed any issues, played FH3 for the first time in a while the other day and I was genuinely blown away with the image.

If you've exhausted all settings / options then apologies if this isn't helpful but it seems like the latest firmware for the B6 has changed a few things and I noticed this (evolving!) thread over on avforums the other day where a few guys are trying to optimise their HDR settings.

I think previously the recommendation was to use the normal colour gamut but in this latest FW seems like Wide is the option to go for potentially

I have a b6 and if I'm playing a game in hdr I noticed when going back to the dashboard it's a lot darker then normal.

Is that before you close the game completely, something to do with the xmb not being designed for HDR, its on Rec. 709 not BT2020. So everything looks slightly washed out and not as vibrant until you come out of HDR game mode.

Yes this is a great thread, I use these settings. You need to have dynamic contrast on with the latest firmware or it will look very dim, you also must have colour gamut on wide.
I personally use DC at medium.

I hope LG release a new firmware where they make it brighter so there is no need for DC, not everyone reads threads like this so have no idea what to change.

Are you on latest 5.30.03 firmware, you using dynamic contrast in HDR game mode?

I am on 4.31.10, there is no update it seems. I have turned off both dynamic contrast and colour. I will try to [put them on and see. Thanks guys

I installed 5.30.03 via USB from LG UK website, takes a while to appear OTA.

Before that I was on 4.31.25, looks like you are on an even older firmware.

I would also say I never needed DC on pre 5.30.03. So if you do update to 5.**, be aware that a lot of people have had various issues with it, do a little research before you update as it might be best sticking with older firmware at present.

Saying that, give them settings a try in the link above, they certainly help brighten up HDR game mode.

It should always look better, probably just the settings you’re using and in game calibration.

New BF1 snow map with embers on my B7 looks phenomenal.

Is that the latest bf1 map expansion, are all the maps pretty good? , I was not that impressed with the maps on the first expansion.

Well HDR10 (emulated on an 8bit panel) from a PS4pro makes a dramatic difference/improvement on the cheapy Hisense we have in Last of Us Left Behind (with everything dynamic off as its awful on this set). Obviously a different TV will respond differently.

Our main issue is I'm not sure, when and if other content that is HDR will get to our set as the PS4pro apps have woeful support for both 4K and HDR as far as I can tell and the smart apps on the TV aren't offering it either although Amazon on the TV recently started 4K streams.
