I been really looking forward to buying an HDR monitor but after seeing this side by side I kinda lost some hype :(
Seems like he says maybe HDR gaming just in't ready yet and the content from the Devs can make it look worst. Here was me thinking the user would have full control over the HDR picture settings? Seems that isn't the case and the final HDR image is out of the box for each game.

No surprises there..... I wouldn't say that it was just nvidia though but also the monitor manufacturers.

As for HDR itself, HDR looks more "realistic/natural" there imo. May not look as nice in terms of colours but give me accuracy over, over exposed areas etc.

Either way, personally I don't think we are going to get good results from a "monitor" for HDR any time soon, as shown constantly over the last 5+ years now, monitor manufacturers don't care about the monitor market as it is too small and not worth worrying about and so far HDR monitors haven't looked very promising, especially the IPS versions.

Also, I am still concerned about the brightness for HDR especially on a monitor where you are sitting pretty close, anything higher than 100 luminace strains my eyes out so bad let alone current monitor max brightness of around 400/500 luminace, I dread to imagine what it will be like with anything close to 1000......

Not to mention, as the guy said, developers etc. will have to specially develop games etc. in order to get the best from HDR and I'm not 100% sure but I imagine that this will be very hard to get done right if you have various different types of HDR monitors out there i.e. ones using IPS then others using VA etc. and not forgetting the HDR TVs which will be far superior than any HDR monitor so yeah most of the optimization will probably be done with consoles and HDR TVs in mind.

Either way, this is where I would much rather just have OLED over any HDR LCD panel, will be far superior still.

Wouldn't say realistic, look at the part the car is on the sand and the sun is casting over. The sand on the left is doing what you would expect from direct sun light, where on the right the HDR looks like they isnt any sun in the image and the sand looks dull.
Will need to see more side by side but so far HDR in gaming might be a flop might be abit early call that one like. Am hoping I wrong HDR is something I want in a new monitor and the idea is very good.

Yep, it was rigged. I think I was the one that brought it up to shanks attention in the Vega thread :)

Nvidia up to their usual antics again. Cannot say I am surprised one bit. It goes to show that these HDR monitors are nothing much special when a company resorts to doing this.

I will be waiting for an OLED screen with proper HDR in a few years time, by then there maybe be actual games that make good use of it.

You wrong :p I already created this before went into that thread. I follow this channel.
