Hello,

I have a canon powershot G7 and I would like to learn how to take pictures (exposure levels?) and convert them to HDR.

I know my camera is not good enough :( but I think I read is possible. But did not find out how.

Is there a tutorial I could read?

thanks a lot.

Take 3 shots at varying exposures. One under-exposed, one exposed properly and one over-exposed. Use a tripod so there's no movement between them. Merge them in Photomatix or Photoshop (or similar) and woop-de-doo, you're automatically a better photographer. Good luck.

Thanks, I will try :)

I hope I find the settings to change exposures :)

Edit: I think I found the setting. I can change it from -2 to +2. I guess 3 pictures at -2,0,+2 will do the trick?

yes it will. just watch out for movement of the camera between photos, since i remember that you have to go through menu's to change the exposure atleast i did on my old canon powershot

It depends on the amount of contrast in the scene really. If there's not a lot then you can get away with using less (or one) exposure. But if there's not a lot of contrast you shouldnt need to create a HDR image anyway.

If there's a lot of contrast then you can use as many exposures as you like. If you try to use one exposure then you'll just end up with something very noisy and horrid looking. as you'll be stretching the image too far.

You don't have to take three photos. You can edit one photos exposure and save three copies. Then you can HDR them. I did that with my lake shot using a jpeg and it came out fine.

Yes that works in a pseudo fashion, but your final picture will be missing the actual HDR you would have had if shooting raw or 3 different exposed pics.

Set your G7 to TV, AV or M mode. Press Func.set button and go down to the 3rd option. Select the middle option AEB and press MENU. Press left or right to select your exposure settings ie 1, 0, 1 or 2, 0, 2 etc etc. There you go, exposure bracketing.

I would recomment you get the advanced G7 manual printed out and binded in some way, there is so much to learn on this camera.

Enjoy
