If I get a card that has HDTV out, can I still connect it with an s/video cable to my normal TV. Or, do I need to get a card that says TV-Out to do that?

I would have thought that most cards with an HDTV out would also have a S-video out, but I'd check the model with the manufacturers website just to be sure - better safe than sorry!

Look a bit past the "HDTV" bit and find out what connections you really need !

X1900/1950 ATI's will do DVI,Component,S-video,Composite Most GFX cards O/P analogue and Digital through the DVI port a simple adapter will give You the Component output, If Your stuck for one of those I have one !

again what is HD out ?? 1920x1080p 1920x1080I, 720P, or a connection to a "HD" device

HD out s capable by all decent gc with a DVI connector. HDMI is the standard new LCD/plasma Hi-def connector now being used. At the moment most Graphic Cards do not have these connectors due to license costs, I believe however most of the new ones will start including them.

Just use a HDMI to DVI-D cable or adapter. Just remember you will need to use sound through a different input as DVI unlike HDMI does not carry a signal for sound.

As for the dispplay on a lcd tv most will go upto 1366*768 which is the clasic 720p or 1080i. There are only a few lcd's/Plasma that can display 1920*1080.
