Hello

I’m after a graphics card which is capable of playing HDTV play back through a HDTV, gaming is not a priority as only a 7 year old will use the PC for limited gaming at lower resolutions (17” monitor). I’ve got some HD .avi .wmv .mkv files and in the future I’ll either get a Bluray or HD-DVD drive.

I’m so far tempted to go for a Radeon 2400 Pro (Silent 256MB DDR2) but I may spend a bit more a get a one of the 2600 range, would one of these cards be OK?

Also I remember reading a while ago about problems around outputting a HD signal to a HDTV has the HDCP standard corrected those issues?

Sorry if these are daft questions!

The PC the card will go in:
C2D 6300
ConRoe945G-DVI
2GB 677MHz Ram
Vista 64

I used a 7900GTX with no HDCP to a 46" 1080p LCD, but I never had protected movies only trailers and games, the newer cards are all HDCP inc my 8800 card so I dont see there being a issue, if there is simply use analogue it bypasses it.

HDCP is absolutely nothing to worry about with your wmv/avi/mkv files, however with future plans including BluRay and HD-DVD a fully HDCP complient card would definitely be a good idea. I've been out of the loop regarding graphics cards for a while now so that's all the advice I can offer I'm afraid :o
