Nice shot and nice conversion. Perhaps a portrait shot that showed you more of where he was going would be good?

I hope when he does lose the stabilisers, he gains a helmet, though :(
 
I like the black and white and the fact you can't see the face but would be better with kid in left hand third of the picture. It may be worth having a go cropping the image to move the child to the left hand side.
 
Is a nice shot and well converted which is the key to a good black and white, have good contrast in the image but requires a crop i think something like this...

I was thinking the same ichabod - it's a great shot, but I think cropping the left side out gives a better sense of travelling.
 
That looks great, as mentioned it gives a great sense of travelling now, really looks like he's going somewhere. Thanks for the advice and comments as ever, it's all helping me come along :cool:

It's pretty funny, looks like you're chasing some little kid on his bike who's desperately trying to escape the paedo photographer man in the park :p

The actual photo is good though! I prefer the cropped one, in this instance I think the rule of thirds is right.

Teach your kid how to do a bunnyhop on his bike!

Sorry, but from my experience of cycling in cities, it really just isn't sensible not to have a helmet. If you don't start kids off having one, then they will almost certainly be less likely to ware one in the future, which in my view is a bad idea. I'm aware many people (probably yourself, judging from your comment) wouldn't be bothered, but that's just my opinion. Tarmac is hard stuff.

Well, not wanting to turn this into a cycling thread, I can say that statistics show(ed - it's been 2-3 years since I last read up on them) that the helmets make no difference if in a serious accident. At best it was 50-50. If you're hit by a car, those flimsy helmets are destroyed instantly. Sadly they're not a patch on motor cycle helmets (obviously), so have minimal use. For children however, they do serve a purpose as they are generally pottering around at a relatively slow speed, so little knocks can be absorbed.

It all depends on where and what you use them for.

Having used them and been in a road accident, I know these things are pretty much useless, when hit by a one tonne piece of metal on wheels.
