Head scratching Atmos issue

Hi,

I recently changed to a panasonic ub420 player.

Basically the issue I have is that I can get it to output Atmos to my SR7012 receiver, where as if I spin up a DTSx movie then it works as it should.

Dolby audio is set to bitstream in the settings and secondary audio turned off.

Any ideas? As a note, Atmos worked via the same hdmi cable and receiver with my previous player.

Regards.

Jase.

Yea, it's the latest firmware and I have also made sure the Atmos track is selected.

I have contacted Pana and they are going to get an engineer to call me.

I am stumped!

Had a call today from Panasonic and they are trying to say that Atmos is not supported "because it hasn't got an Atmos logo on the player"

It mentions Atmos playback in the user manual.

Any thoughts?

The specs for the player state it can do atmos and dtsx, is it only atmos tracks causing you issues ? Have you tried a DTSX UHD disk ?

As you can see here https://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/home-entertainment/blu-ray-and-dvd-players/dp-ub420.specs.html it states atmos and dtsx in the specs.

Also what HDMI cable are you using and how is it actually hooked up your system ? is the player plugged into the HDMI of the AVR ? If it is plugged into the TV then you are expecting ARC to do it that maybe the problem as the TV will probably not be able to route ATMOS or DTSX to the AVR.

Also the HDMI cable is it one of them with a directional status (arrows on the direction the cable needs to be plugged in) ?

The player need to go straight into the AVR and make sure the cable is right way round if directional and also try swapping it round as a test too. Make sure the player is outputting bitstream and any other audio out on the player eg. secondary audio is turned off.

Hi purgatory, thanks for the reply.

Jason Bourne 4k is in DTS x and works as it should.

The player is plugged direct into the marantz with a good quality HDMI cable, although I hadn't noticed if it was directional but I will check.

When I changed from a HD player to a 4K player the cable remained in situ and I simply swapped the players, the previous HD player passed Atmos to the receiver with no problems.

I have checked and triple checked the settings, the audio is set to bitstream and I have tried the secondary audio set to off and auto with no change.

I will check the cable for a direction and out of curiosity I will try a regular blu ray with an Atmos track to see what happens.

Many thanks for the tips!

So,

I have swapped around the hdmi, and also tried another brand cable with the same result.

I then tested lego batman BR and again no Atmos, only Dolby true HD to the receiver. This is one of the discs I know passed Atmos to the avr via this same cable on my old non 4k player.

Frustrating.
