I'm off to France next week and so considering the usual problem of headlamp converters. I've always bought the stick on ones, but on my last car they left a nasty smear on the headlamp that wouldn't wash off. I got a new car this year so would like to avoid that situation again, so is there anything I can get that will adequately clean that stuff off?

I've seen some cheap-skates at the channel ports just sticking some black insulation tape on their headlights - is that legal (i.e. do the job) though, and how do I know where to stick it and in what shape? Cheers for any advice.

Dont see why not. Most people dont bother, personally I never have, and yes ive been pulled by french plod, and they never said a word.

People driving french / european cars over here dont bother putting converters on their cars to stop dazzling us UKers.

My cars manual showed how to mask them, I used black tape. Another time I bought those stick on things, tbh the beam seemed to be all over the place.
