Headlight bulbs for BMW

Is there any consensus on the best h7 bulb for e39/e53 projector headlamps?

I have recently replaced some V1 nightbreakers with some Ring ultimate xenon 120%, and they are excellent, very much recommended

But these would offer a noticeable upgrade from OEM Halogens @ ~20% of the cost of a good HID upgrade...

I thought hid conversions were crap? Looking at which online and they rate Bosch pure light. Never seen them mentioned anywhere else and halfords only do Bosch or own brand and I have a trade card. Who makes the halfords bulbs?
