I'm wanting to reduce my headphone collection as I tend to only use one pair at any given time. I have:

AKG K7XX
DT770 Pro 250ohm
HyperX Cloud 2 (originally bought for console gaming but have never been out of box).

At the moment my main pair are the AKG's but I think that is mostly due to getting stung on the postage and customs fee when importing them and want to get my money's worth out of them. I sometimes find they clamp down on my head making them uncomfortable to wear for long periods. From what I can tell, these sound really good when it comes to gaming though. Being able to clearly hear footsteps etc.

I've had the 770s for years. They still feel as comfortable to wear as the day I bought them. Sometimes I even forget I have them on. I'm not a big fan of the coiled cable that comes with it however. With my main use being primarily gaming, I feel these might be more suited to music listening due to the bass.

HyperX Cloud I've already decided to sell them as I've never used them and if I do need a headphone for console gaming, I'd prefer wireless.

Will I be doing the right thing by keeping the AKGs and selling the 770s? I could even be tempted to sell both of them if there is a better all-rounder alternative on the market I can buy instead. HD650 perhaps?

I fell in love with the 650s when I had a chance to try them.

I've owned DT 770s, and liked them a lot. But they could have quite harsh highs.

Which games console do you have? On the PS4 and XBOX One, the headset plugs into the controller, essentially making all headsets wireless.

I've got both consoles and yeah just remembered that's a thing these days but still tempted to sell the Cloud 2's to clear some space and could do with the funds especially if I sell all my current ones to fund the 650s or He400i.

If your primary use is gaming, you won't find better headphones than the AKG K7XX. The HE-400i have a good frequency response for gaming but they don't have the huge soundstage that the AKGs produce. While the Sennheiser HD650 is a great headphone for music, they are not the best for gaming. The highs are too rolled off, which is where you want LOTS of detail and it's there, just not in great quantity and they have a very intimate (read small) sound stage.

Looks like it will be the DT770s that I sell then. In the reviews I read about the K7XXs, everyone comments on the comfort of them but I find after awhile the clamp gets too much. Still more comfortable than the Q701s with the awful headband bumps though! Thought maybe different pads might help but that might effect the soundstage.

try carefully straightening out the headband wires, it should reduce the pressure somewhat - just don't overdo it.
