What does impedance mean when looking at the specs for headphones?

I have looked at several definitions that either contradict each other or just (for me anyway) don't make any sense?

impedance is just how hard headphones are to drive. E.g. an ipod can easily drive a pair of grado's as they are 32ohm, but senns are a few millions squillion ohms so don't sound great with an ipod unless hooked up to a portable amp....

Im not that knowledgeable so wait for a proper reply :D

So the higher the Impedance the harder to drive, therefore more voltage/current is required to "get the best out of" a pair of headphones.....is that it in a nutshell?

using V=IR that would be true, but im not 100% sure.

All i know is that with a decent amp, better models in the grado/ senn range absolutely sing :D
