hi all I just built a gaming pc ordered the parts from overclockers (great service btw)

I bought myself corsair 7.1 gaming headset (usb)

I also bought asus 7.1 soundcard

I now know they cannot be used together :(

will i get a decent improvement over the usb headphones using the soundcard and headphones with jack lead
as i could sell the sound card and take a loss or sell headset take the loss then buy new headphones.
because i just spent £800 and its on top of Christmas and wondered weather the sound quality improvement would be worth the extra money

i have the msi z97 gaming 5 motherboard if that helps

thanks in advance

All Asus cards are called Xonar. Some are better for headphone use than others. What does it say on the box, assuming you bought a retail one and not OEM.

not sure what is says on the box (its not here atm)

I edited my post to show my card

what am I looking for on the box ? I can get and post details when I get back

thanks for the replys

Hmm. this creates a bit of dilemma. DSX is not really the ideal card for use with headphones. Sure it will work, but there are better choices.

If it's a choice between returning the sound card or the Corsair Headset. Personally, I'd return the headset. Corsair are not the best choice for sound quality, plus in general sound cards are better than using the built in sound processing USB headsets have.

I'd go for a Kingston HyperX Cloud, which is probably the best headset under £100. Even for use with the DSX, I'd still choose that over the Corsair.

If you haven't had the sound card and headset for 7 days yet, I'd return both under the DSR. OcUK have 14 days for full refund of unwanted items, but I think that applies to unopened items only. By law though, every company has to comply to the 7 day DSR, even if the product has been opened.

True, that's why I said the DSX is not the best choice for headphones. DGX or DX would be better choices as they have Dolby Headphone which is used to create 5.1 effect with any analogue headset or headphone. DSX doesn't have that.
