Im looking for a pair of headphones no more than £150 to replace my 20 year old cans that have seen better days . Would welcome some recommendations as there is a minefield of crap from what i can tell .

Would prefer open back if possible ,must have removable cable . Not interested in wireless

Sennheiser HD25's? Love mine. Replaceable everything, excellent sound quality, DJ industry standard, so durability isn't really a concern. I'd expect them to last at least as long as your old ones unless they are on the road constantly. They will be closed back headphones though, if open backed 'phones are a priority for you.

AKG K702. Very big sound stage and can hear every detail in the sound. They are open back and also very comfortable. The cable is detachable. They do not have huge punchy base if that is an issue for you.

Where are they for £180? I see them on the rainforrest for £340...

They were £180 last night when I posted here and in Sound forum.

Since it seems they have jumped back up in price I would probably go on the Sennheiser outlet store and find something there. My 599s were as new.

The HE400i have been jumping between full price and £180 for months - keep on checking as the chances are that they will drop yet again.
