Dear all,

I want to get some Headphones which will be mainly used for Gaming, with the odd now and then listening to Music.

However, I don't have a Soundcard, just the one built into my Abit 939 AGP Motherboard.

What would be the best headphones for my setup?

Thanks

would you considder buying a pci soundcard?
with decent headphones id imagine you would just be able to hear the 'noise' fromt he onboard sound even more.

you will need to give us a budget too mate ;)

If you want some decent headphones for gaming I'd go for the Speedlink Medusa 5.1s. They give pretty good surround sound, not quite up to the standard of a 5.1 speaker setup but certainly good enough to help in games. They're not really designed for music listening though, so if you're going to be listening to much you might be better off going for some decent stereo headphones.

By the way, I'm guessing your onboard sound is 5.1?

Porta Pro :)

Or Sporta Pro for more bass and lower cost - but the PP is, IMO, more well rounded and one of the best option in the £30 range.

You mean a power socket plug?

That's unusual. Most headphones do -not- require something like that. Unless it's for an amp.

In any case, the aforementioned alternatives can all be plugged to the stereo jack on the mobo.

Next best? Did someone say the Medusas were the best? They sound pretty ropey compared to decent stereo headphones of the same price. Forget 5.1 headphones, they're a gimmick. I've had both the Zalman and Medusas, the Zalmans went in the bin, the Medusas are sat unused in their box in my cupboard.

Excellent sound quality ;)

You've obviously never heard any good headphones. That's not a criticism though, it's just a fact :)

I'm confused by it all becuase the Medusa's come with an amp which needs power and you need to use the Amp?

Yes, you need to use the amp and yes it uses a power socket.
