Hey guys,

I mainly listen to music from my iPod. Of course, this isn't the best quality source, but I would like to have as best an audio experience as possible.

I currently have a pair of Sony MDR-EX85 earbud-style headphones.

I listen to a broad range of music, from R&B to dance to classical to rock to pop - a real eclectic mix - so I need a set of headphones that are flexible.

Ideally they will cost under £200.

I have a leaning towards earbuds again, for portability, but am open to suggestions for full-size headphones, as I mainly listen to my music sitting at a desk.

Thanks in advance!

I had a pair of these for my iPod and nothing portable has ever come close to them:

Audio Technica ATH-EM9R Adjustable Headphones

Have you looked the PX100 from Sennheiser I have used them for the last 3-4 years with my IRiver H320 and the sound quality is superb for what they are. A friend tried them on his Itouch and ordered some pretty much straight away.

I have the Sennheiser HD-25's and the Shure E3's and recommend both very highly.

They set me back about £100-£130 each.

i spent about £50 on some in ear shure ones.. very good mid-high reproduction, and brill sound insulation, but poor base.. presumerably in the more expensive ones it would be better. Also i didnt rate the in ear headphone for comfort, they're not uncomfortable per se, but they can get a bit dry, and rub. Id get those sennheisers instead

If you want the ultimate ipod audio experience then as well as new earphones/headphones you should also get a headphone amp for it. Sounds a bit extreme I know but it is definitely worth it. I pair my ipod via line out to a go vibe amp and future sonics M5 IEMs (in ear monitors) and the results is a really balanced output for both mp3s and lossless files.

There is a really good forum for portable audio, please feel free to contact me if you want to know about it. I joined initially to get a recommendation on a new pair of earphones but ended up buying a new ipod, amp and IEMs lol.

IEM wise you can't go wrong with Shure, future sonics or ultimate ears.

I use Etymotic ER4P IEMs, they cost about £150, well worth it.

I've got Etymotic hf2s for my iPhone, and although the SQ and comfort are excellent, the build quality is awful. I'm onto my third pair in 12 months. Fortunately the dealer just keeps replacing them since Etymotic customer service in the US never respond to anything.

Pretty gutted about the experiance I've had with them.
