I am looking to buy a set of closed can headphones which are to be mostly plugged into the front end of an X-Fi Fata1ty. They are going to be used for listening to music mostly.

My last cans were a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro's which were just awesome, so any suggestions for something similarly good sounding would be much appreciated :D

Edit - My budget is upto £150 and I'd prefer closed headphones

Id head over to head-fi.org for advice :) personally im going for some beyerdynamic DT880s' trouble is i cant find them in stock anywhere ><

I had the problem as well. I had a read of the Audio Technica ATH- A900 which seem to have reasonable reviews around though they were ~£180. I found a shop in Hong Kong that does them for £110 which is well around my budget. This shop also claims to pay my import fee's...which I'm going to wait and see tbh, but it'd be great if they did!

I'll update this thread with a mini mini-review when they arrive if anybody is interested? :)

ah nice to hear, i was thinking about getting them but i went for the beyerdynamic dt880s. Nice headphones £140 was the cheapest ive seen in the uk but the only place with them in stock had them at £190 :( I'm still waiting for them to "burn in" so have yet to hear the settled sound. I think i need an amp to get any more out of these puppies so ill have to get that sorted too ;)

Lol good stuff, I had a pair of DT 770 Pro's 250Ohm which needed the volume turned waaay up high (as you'd expect)!

They did sound very very nice after burning in and it was a horrendous shock to go back to a paltry MOS IXOS DJ1001's :( Hope you enjoy them fella. Would also be interested to know what headphone amp you choose if you do decide to get one.

I'm currently using these straight out of an x-fi xtreme music and they sound great. Sound is very accurate and clear, providing a wide and almost open sounding soundstage. The bass is very deep and fairly impactful, plus it doesn't bleed into the midrange like cheaper headphones, providing ample amounts of clarity for games and movies. My only problem with the headphone is that the midrange (or lower midrange/upper bass to be exact) is ever so slightly recessed which can be noticeable if you're used to more forward and aggressive sounding headphones or listen to mainly metal/hard rock (in which case a pair of Grados would be better). Its not a problem for me and after several days of use I noticed a distinct improvement in the midrange.

The A900's are also very large and comfy with a long and sturdy cable, perfect for PC use. Highly recommended if you want an all round, top notch headphone.

Arrived in the post this morning. My word they sound really good! I'm still not sure as to whether they're better than my DT770 Pro's but they certainly sound sweet so far.
