Hi all,

My Bose in ear earphones are on their last legs so I need to get another pair. I want to go for some headphones rather than earphones this time.

I am abit clueless about what is good to buy. I've got a budget of £150-200. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Sennheiser HD25's. Superb headphones. Light, portable, excellent bass and most important of all for tube use, great sound isolation.

Need more information really.

What music do you prefer? What sound signature do you like? By sound signature I mean do you like bass, treble, mids or a balanced neutral sound? Emphasis on one part of the spectrum usually means another part is sacrificed or compromised in some way.

No point in getting a bass heavy can if you like classical mainly!

EDIT: Missed the tube bit in your second post. Just go with HD25s as Marsman said. :p

I just got a pair of Ultrasone 780's which seem to be excellent.

Do they need to be open or closed? I'd assume closed if your on the tube.

Others in your budget that i looked at were

Shure SRH840's
B&W P5's
Audio Technica M50's

Might be worth all looking into.

For use on the tube, would be worth looking at some of the active sound cancelling units. Sennheiser do a range including the PXC250, 300 etc.
I recently bought some PXC250s (<£60) and was pretty impressed with them on the move, the noise cancelling really does work well. More to the point, they also sound like a half decent headphone.
The only bad part I can say about them is that in none "active" mode, they sound really flat, which is fine but in a quiet environment, my 250s generate noticeable levels of hiss as a side effect of noise cancelling with little noise around.

Thanks for the info guys. I will try out some Sennheiser headphones over the weekend in store to see what they are like.

In terms of music i listen mainly to R&B, rap and dubstep mainly, so base is key.

do anyone tried Beats by Dre?

Not sure what to make of them as some people say that they are great but it seems like a big marketing campaign to me.

The only people who think they are great are those who have fell for marketing, and upgraded from a £10 set of headphones. So of course a £xxx ser of headphones is going to sound better, But in comparison to other brands on the market at the same price even cheaper they are abysmal.

I wouldn't say that is entirely true. If you go into a decent shop that has loads of headphones to test out (all be it the main brands Bose, Sony etc) they do sound pretty decent in comparison. IF you compared them to something like SKull brand at say $35 they would sound amazing.
However, I wouldn't recommend them over a proper set of headphones as mentioned above for similar prices :)

If you like bass i think i'd go with either the Ultrasone 780's or the Shure 840's. Both seem to be well regarded as a bass set of headphones

I'll also add Ultrasone HFI-580 and Shure SRH-750DJ as slightly cheaper alternatives to the two above that are worth considering.

Eh a decent shop that sells sony and bose?

I was certainly not talking about bose and sony, Bose are just as bad as the beats by dre.

All marketing very little substance.
