Hey guys,

just wanted to give you a heads up, I (along with a lot of people) have been waiting ages for Everyday Software to get there arse in gear and finish the development of Bookit 4, it is software to sync bookmarks between the different browsers and still doesn't support Firefox 3.

the alternative was always bookdog, but in comparison although the functionality was there the software is nowhere near as aesthetically nice looking and easy to use...

so anyway, i'd been checking periodically for updates to bookit but it never (and still hasn't) came, and basically I don't think they ever will develop the update now...

... due to this: foxmarks has recieved an overhall and now can be installed for safari and IE :)

http://www.foxmarks.com/

its an addon for FF, and a system preferences install for safari, and i gotta say it works like a dream :) - i can now let it sync away and it means my firefox bookmarks now end up synced with my iphone...

Top dog ;)

Delicious is all well and good but I add pretty much anything I find to it, so it's a bit of a mess. My "proper" bookmarks are selectively chosen due to being used the most.

I also find being able to hit something on the bookmark bar or the drop-down menu far quicker and easier then navigating to delicious. For everything delicious is good at, the interface is pretty gak.

I personally welcome this upgrade to Foxmarks and thank you MuGeN for brining it to our attention. :)

MobileMe has had this for ages :p
no it hasn't... MobileMe syncs between the cloud and Safari, and then down to the Safari on your iPhone or whatever. until now there has been no nice way to sync from FF3 through to MobileMe ;)

For people who use FF most of the time, but want to be able to access the same bookmarks on your iPhone or iPod Touch without having to export your bookmarks from FF then import them into Safari periodically, this is the first decent solution...

OK, I've installed it on Firefox and Safari and am using Safari to tidy up my bookmarks and it seems to be syncing straight back to the server, but how often does each side check for changes? I know that if I change something on either browser that they sync the changes pretty much straight away but it's when they're sitting idle that I'm wondering about.

I had growl telling me for a while (only reports on the safari side of things) and it seemed about every 5 minutes at a guess... i don't think they sync straight away?

I'm not quite sure where the "master" is yet... but it all seems to be working well :)

Thanks for the information. Never seen this before but now have it installed across my two laptops. All it needs now is chrome support as its my favourite browser when im forced onto the windows machine by the wife :)

it made me chuckle, I was going to install it on my laptop but after the bookmarks had synced from Firefox to Safari on the Mac Pro, they then got thrown into the mobileme cloud and appeared on the laptop anyway. Good stuff.
