This is just a quick heads up for any one is, or knows someone who is, looking to get in to F1 engineering:

We are launching a search to find the next generation of Formula One Engineers and offering ten aspiring engineers the chance to complete a recognised UK NVQ Level 3 Apprenticeship under the wings of the Formula One World Champions, Red Bull Racing.

If you have a passion for engineering, the determination to succeed and - of course - plenty of energy, we want to hear from you.

This is a rare opportunity to 'earn as you learn' and kick-start your career, working at the forefront of modern engineering.

Sounds like a great idea. If I was 15 years younger I'd be jumping at the chance.

More info here: http://www.txmrecruit.co.uk/redbull/home/

I'm surprised that nobody else has replied to this thread.

A lot of people in F1 threads, often ask about how they might "get into" F1 and this seems to be the opportunity of a lifetime, especially given the high unemployment of young people (if the news stories are to be believed).

I do feel though, that Sparkey should give a little insight of what it is like to work in an F1 team. Some people believe that it is all fun and games and I'm sure Spunkey will allude to the fact that even when you are the best team on the grid and winning (almost) everything, you will probably work harder in an F1 team, than you would doing a "normal" day job.

Good luck to those who apply, though. It sounds like a great opportunity.

Oh I'm sorry....hehehe.

I meant that Sparkey should give a bit of an insight, as he already works for RBR.

Long and short of it is it's hard work, however the rewards [when your having a good season] are excellent. December to March say goodbye to your family as you will be spending more time at work than at home!

Hope you are not "Star struck" as you will bump into allsorts of people going about your normal routine. Film stars, rock stars, sportsmen/women are often seen having a sniff around and at first you can't help but stand and stare, after a while you get use to it and hardly take any notice. Workplace is great and also immaculate, workmates are great although far from immaculate !

You will love it, you will love the buzz of the place just remember it is bloody hard work, keep your head down and get on with it.

Is there an age limit? Not sure if a 25 year old technical marketing manager really fits the bill.

Cheers Sparky. I may be blind here but I can't find a careers section on the RB racing website. If you can say, I'd be very interested to know where you advertise positions externally.

I've often wondered where you go to hunt out a job in F1, I thought a lot of it is knowing the right people?

Good idea, but i doubt most people have this part down:

"If you have a passion for engineering"

unless that can mean anything, like just admiring engineering and such, without having a drop of knowledge about it.

Still i can imagine it's really hard work but totally worth it, just out of curiosity what is the pay like for such a job?

Hey Aeleys,

I work with TXM Recruit who are the partners with Red Bull Technology on this. I wanted to sign in and let you know that the pay for this position starts at £9,500 per annum (but may increase depending on experience).

It's in line with the pay for most apprenticeships, I believe.

Let me know if you have any other questions - :)

usually what makes apprenticeships only suitable for much younger people is the low wage.

Your starting at the bottom, and they are investing heavily in you with your training.

Thus, most 25 year olds with their own flat and bills to pay probably wouldn't be able to live off the sort of wage offered. If you still love at home however ....

once you're established yes. People can swap from team to team easily, and people get promoted from within the team. But lots of the current staff started off at the bottom in apprenticeships like this.

Have any OCUK forumites applied for this?

I watch the news, on a daily basis and see that unemployment amongst the youth of today, is sky high. This is a fantastic opportunity for those who are fresh out of Uni or College and are looking for work.

I want to see youngsters get these opportunities and take full advantage of them. Good on RBR for doing this. Youngsters can get the opportunity to be trained up by the best F1 team in the World....if only I was 15 years younger, I'd have gone for this.

Come on guys, go and apply if you are looking for work...if you are lucky you will go through the interview process and if you are luckier, you will get offered the job, at which point you can make a final decision on whether to accept or not.

Best of luck to those who do apply.

F1 is not what you think it is. It's crazy hard work and loads of time away for 'ok' pay. Bonuses do help if your at a winning team though I guess

Dont know where you get your information from but, there are probably 200 people within sight that would disagree.

Yes the race team spend a lot of time away from home during the race season but, they expect that. They also get quite a bit of time off inbetween races which makes up for it. Plus, there are a lot more people to a F1 team than the 70 people that travel to a race. None of these spend "loads" of time away and are on a fair chunk more money than "ok" trust me.
