Just a quick heads up. Holographic storage devices will be available later on this year, with a bit of luck they should be faster than conventional hard drives due to the storage density, or at least I certainly hope so.

Just had a quick look at the company site who have developed this, yes, it is blindingly fast!, and from the looks of it will be initially very expensive, but with archival reliability of 50 years (magnetic is only 7 years) and the speed and capacity of the disks, this will be an invaluable backup device in large IT departments.
